Prof. Dr. Claudia Lux is Project Director of Qatar National Library (since 2012), the most innovative National Library in the Region, to support the development of Qatar’s vision 2030 to become an information society.

Prior to Dr. Claudia Lux’s appointment to Qatar National Library, her executive role was Director General of Central and Regional Library Foundation in Berlin, one of the biggest and most visited public libraries in Europe for more than 15 years. Dr. Claudia Lux lead the process to unify the libraries of East and West Berlin to one powerful library organization, representing different integrated library functions from research to public. She was Director of the Senate library, a special library for Berlin’s administration, where she introduced an integrated library system and web-services in 1995. She started her library carrier at the East Asian department of the State library in Berlin. Before she came to libraries she worked as a freelancer in market and media research.

Dr. Claudia Lux was President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) from 2007 – 2009 and has served on IFLA’s boards for several years. She was a member of the advisory committee for the Global Libraries Program of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and for the Library of International Literature in Moscow. From 2005 – 2013 she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of Library and Information Research, Washington. In Germany she was elected as president of the umbrella association of library and information in Germany, was Chair of the German Library Association, and was appointed to the Board of the German National Library, the National Library of Economics, and others. She has published books and articles on different library topics. Besides other awards she has a Honorary Professorship at Humboldt University Berlin (Germany) and The Honorary Fellow Award of IFLA.
