In 1975 Regina Varnienė-Janssen graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in Librarianship and Bibliography. In 1986 she acquired a Candidate of Sciences degree in Education (in 1993, a Doctor of Sciences degree in Social Sciences).

Since 1992 she has been a Deputy Director General of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania and Director of the Centre of Bibliography and Book Science and since 2011, the Director of the National Centre for Digitization and the Virtual Electronic Heritage System. She is an initiator and implementer of significant national projects: LIBIS, VEPS, Digitization Monitoring, etc.

The key areas of her professional interests are digitization of the Lithuanian cultural heritage, long-term preservation and access of the digital content and strategic management of these processes.
