The paper presents significant works from Slovak based printing houses printed in second half of the 17th century. The main artefact which is taken into consideration is first textbook printed for Lutheran schools in territory of nowadays Slovakia Parva Schola written by Jan Sinapius – Horčička, Slovak priest, author and educator. It is a fine example of baroque literature in Upper Hungary as well as first educational books printed in Slovak printing houses. Each era had its own educational requirements, and therefore the content of textbooks always depended on the political and social conditions in which they were created. The textbook was published in Skalica in 1658 and interpreted Latin grammar based on religious texts. The presented paper outlines formal as well as contextual aspects of the baroque prints especially textbooks delivered by printing houses in Slovak territory in the late 17th century.
