Her research focuses on language policy, multilingualism, minority and regional languages, linguistic landscapes, and the social dimensions of language use and change. She is interested in the extralinguistic factors that shape language use, with particular attention to language practices and policies in multilingual and minority-language communities. Her research has addressed the South Estonian variety\u00a0V\u00f5ro\u00a0and the experiences of\u00a0Russian-speaking students in schools transitioning to Estonian-language instruction in North-East Estonia. She has published on language policy, language ideologies, minority languages, and multilingualism.
