Exploring the world of the past. The recent past through the eyes of young scientists

Young Researchers Discussion (Moderator: Ass. Prof. Dr. Jogilė Ulinskaitė)

The popularity of research of the socialist period in Central and Eastern Europe is not limited to those who lived through it – young researchers who have no personal (physical) experience of the Soviet era are also actively interested in it. The discussion will examine how much (if at all) the perspectives of these two groupsthose who lived under socialism and those born after its collapsediffer, and will ask whether distance from the period under study allows for a more critical view of it, or perhaps encourages a closer and more sensitive understanding of that period? Among other things, today’s context will be discussedhow the younger generation of researchers interprets the recent past and what these studies can tell us about the present.
