Proofreading Differences in the 16th- and 17th-Centuries

Mindaugas Šinkūnas (The Institute of the Lithuanian Language, Lithuania)

Lithuanian Books The scholars of ancient writings know well that it is impossible to find two identical copies of the same publication. The differences are due to the manual method of printing and to the proofreading during the printing. The printer did not remove the printed folds containing errors, they were introduced into some copies during the binding process. The presentation discusses the proofreading differences in the books by Bartholomew Wilent (1579), Jonas Bretkūnas (1591), Samulei Minvydas, Jonas Božimovskis (1653) and Daniel Klein (1654, 1667), among others, and presents a computer algorithm that facilitates the search of such differences.
