Literary agent B. Bėrantas provides insights into the translations of Lithuanian children’s books into foreign languages and the opportunities that arise for their authors, and distinguishes two main topics in this presentation: 1) How literature created by Lithuanian writers and illustrators helps the world to discover our country, 2) How creativity helps Lithuanian writers and illustrators get to know the world.
The first part reviews the broad geography of translations of Lithuanian children’s literature through chosen examples of books, reveals the reasons for the choices of foreign publishers and what makes the work of our authors interesting to the world.
The second part reviews the opportunities that arise for Lithuanian authors after translating their work into a foreign language and how this can contribute to a deeper understanding of the world and the further development of creativity.
Finally, B. Bėrantas shares his personal experience, how familiarity with children’s literature during his studies led to the work of a literary agent, which helps him to get to know different countries, different cultures, and children’s literature of those countries.
